About Talking

One day my father and I were walking in the woods together.

At a corner, my father stopped and asked me: “Besides the singing of the birds, what other sounds did you hear?”

I listened carefully, and after a few seconds I answered him: “I heard the carriage.”

The father said: “Yes, it is an empty carriage.”

I asked him: “Did we see it? How did you know it was an empty carriage?”

The father replied: “You can easily tell if the carriage is empty by the sound. The emptier the carriage, the louder the noise.”

Later, when I grew up, whenever I was eloquent, interrupted others’ conversations rudely, was self-righteous, arrogant, and belittled others, I felt as if my father was saying in my ear: “The emptyer the carriage, the louder the noise.”
