Enable Multi-threaded Downloads in Chrome by Default

Parallel Downloading in Chrome Browser

Chrome’s Parallel downloading feature enables multi-threaded downloads, which significantly improves download speed. With this feature, unless you’re downloading exceptionally large files, Chrome’s built-in multi-threaded download can handle most needs.

Chrome defaults to single-threaded downloads. To enable multi-threaded downloading, you need to manually enable it. The process is simple.

Step 1

First, open the following address in your browser:

chrome://flags/#enable-parallel-downloading

Step 2

Find “Parallel downloading” (use CTRL+F to search), click “Enabled”, and restart your browser.

This method also works for other Chromium-based browsers, such as Microsoft Edge.
